The Healing Power of Groups: How Connection Builds Resilience and Growth
In our individual-focused culture, many people feel like they have to face life’s challenges alone. But healing often happens best in community. Whether you’re processing emotions, learning new coping skills, or simply looking for connection, group work offers unique benefits that one-on-one settings can’t always provide.
At Ancora Wellness in downtown Hillsboro, our group offerings are designed to nurture connection, build resilience, and encourage personal growth in a safe, trauma-informed, and LGBTQIA2S+ affirming environment.
1. Groups Reduce Isolation and Build Connection
Isolation can intensify stress, anxiety, and self-doubt. Being part of a group reminds us that we’re not alone in our experiences. Hearing others share their stories helps normalize challenges and build compassion—for ourselves and others.
Our Men’s Group, Men in Process, is a powerful example. It offers a supportive space for men to explore emotions, relationships, and identity in a world that often discourages vulnerability. Participants find connection through shared experiences and gain tools for authentic communication and self-understanding.

2. Shared Insight Leads to Growth
Groups create opportunities to learn from others’ experiences. You might hear someone describe a pattern that mirrors your own, or you might gain a new perspective that helps you approach challenges differently.
Our Mindfulness Art Therapy Group, Creative Pause, combines creative expression with mindfulness practices to help participants reduce stress, process emotions, and connect to their inner voice. Through shared creativity, members often uncover insights they didn’t realize they had—and find healing through art and presence.
3. Skills and Support Go Hand in Hand
Some groups focus on teaching evidence-based tools in a collaborative setting. Our Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Group helps participants build emotional regulation, mindfulness, and interpersonal effectiveness skills. In a group, these skills come alive—you can practice them in real time, receive feedback, and see how others apply them in their own lives.

4. Intentional Community Strengthens Daily Practice
Growth doesn’t only happen in therapy—it’s also about how we show up in everyday life. Our Early Morning Intention Group called Coffee and Clarity helps to provide a gentle, structured way to start the day with purpose. Together, participants set intentions, practice mindfulness, and ground themselves before the busyness begins. Starting the morning in community helps sustain positive routines and emotional balance.

5. Authenticity and Belonging Fuel Healing
At Ancora Wellness, our groups are guided by a commitment to anti-oppression, trauma-informed care, and LGBTQIA2S+ affirmation. When people feel safe and accepted, they can show up authentically—and that’s where true healing begins.
Whether you’re exploring emotional wellness, creativity, mindfulness, or connection, there’s a space here for you to grow alongside others who understand.
